1) How did you enjoy the film? What stood out for you?

I really liked the way the film explained to us that we are very lucky to have everything we have in our life. It showed us that their are people out their that are not getting a good education and we have a good education that we take for granted. What stood out was the fact that these kids have to go through so much every single day of their life. They have to do so many chores and they are treated like slaves. They get beaten and sworn at daily and it’s not a big deal for them because they’re used to it but we find it very shocking.

2) Did you learn anything new about photography, life, people? What?

Yes, I did learn something new. I learned that photography is something that can express ones feelings. I learned that one can also express the way their life is at the time with photgraphy. I also learned that photography is also a way to express ones freedom of expression.

3) How do you think the world needs to change?
How important is this?

I think the world needs to change by giving back more to help the people who are less fortunate then us. We need to find a better way to help the people in need no matter what they are in need for.(education, medication, food, etc.) This is truly important that we find a way to help everyone and provide everyone we can because right now their are still people in need around the world.

4) What are you willing to do TODAY to be a part
of that change?

I an willing to use my time off from school to provide and help out others. I am willing to fundraise money, help the elderly, or collect food to send to the less fortunate. I am willing to stop the violence or problems that are going on in my school any way I can.

5) Do you know a good song/rap/poem with
good lyrics about change in the world?
Post a link or lyrics to share it with
us.

   6) Pick a non-profit organization that is important to you. Why is this important to you? Do they have a website?

The Breast Cancer Society of Canada is a non-profitable organization that is important to me because breast cancer is a huge issue that women really fear and I truly fear of as well. It is something that gets me really thinking about the people who are suffering with this diseases and I feel very scared for them. I want the world to find a lasting cure for breast cancer that will save the lives of many women going through breast cancer.

7) What ideas do you have for media arts projects that we could do individually or as a class to help contribute to these organizations that are important to us?

We can make food and bring it in to sell to the school. We can make cake, brownies, muffins, etc. We can sell it for like 50 cents to a dollar each. We can also bring some of our old clothes and send those to an organisation.

{January 17, 2008}   Understanding resolution

1) Will a 300 dpi image or a 72 dpi image be clearer when printed out at the same size? How come?

A 300 dpi image would be more clear then a 72 dpi image when printed out at the same time because the 300 dpi image is created with more dots then the 72 dpi image. When an image has more dots the image has more detail which will result in more clearity. Therefore as a result the 300 dpi image would be more clear.

2) What would a picture created at 1 dpi look like?

A picture created at 1 dpi would basically be a dot therefore it would look like a dot on a page!

{December 14, 2007}   Fruit Bowl Class Task!!!

fruit with feather toolFEATHER TOOL

fruit bowl with a combination of toolsCOMBINATION OF TOOLS

Fruit bowl with magic wandMAGIC WAND TOOLfruit bowl with lasso toolLASSO TOOL

Question  and Answers:

1. What combination of tools did you use to isolate the fruit in “fruit_combo.jpg” and where in the image did you use which tool?

The combination of tools I used was a varity of tools. I used the the magnetic lasso tool to isolate the top half of the backround. Then, I used the magic wand to isolate the bottom half however, I was not able to isolate all of it so, I used the marquee tool and the eraser to isolate the little bites that were left over to isolate. Therefore, I managed to isolate the backround of the fuit bowl picture.

2. Of the methods you used to isolate the fruit in the 3 pictures. Which method did you find most effective in this case?

Out of the three pictures and the three methods I used I found the magnetic lasso tool to be most effective in this case because it allowed me to go around the picture faster and the most perfect then the other tools. The other tools like the magic wand wouldn’t always select the part I wanted and after much struggle I would get the right part I wanted even when I used “add to selection”. When using the wand it would take up too much of my time. When I used a combination of tools that also took too much of my time where I could have just used the magnetic lasso and could have made my life so much easier.

3. Experiment with the following:
After you make a selection in the menu and go to
     a) Select > Modify > Expand
     b) Select > Modify > Contract
     c) Select > Feather
What do these do? Post a fourth image indicating that you know what feathering does.

a)    The expand tool basically allows you to make your selection wider. So, if you use the magnetic lasso tool and go around the fruit bowl after clicking on expand it makes your selection wider depending on how much you expand your image by.

b)    The contract tool basically does the opposite of the expanding tool. So, instead of making the selection size wider it decreases the size of your selection. For example, when you use the magnetic lasso tool and go around the fruit bowl after clicking on contract it makes your selection decrease in size depanding on how much you contract it by.

c)    The feather tool basically allows you to give the object a glowing efffect. This is done because you don’t want jaged sides around your image therefore you use the feather tool to make the object look more smooth. So, when you use the feather tool on the fruit bowl after you isolate the backround it will give you the glowing effect depending on how much feather radius you want in this case I chose a feather radius of 15.
